Weather

Civic

• The City of Madison won’t be collecting recycling, trash, brush, or large items on Memorial Day — Mon., May 30. Residents with Monday pickup should plan to put their carts out on Tuesday. ♻️

Development

• The Center for Black Excellence and Culture received a $2.5 million donation from Ascendium Education Group. The 65,000-sqft development — which plans to start construction in 2023 — will help celebrate and promote Black excellence. 🏆 (The Cap Times)

Opening

• The Waterpark Capital of the World is getting a new water ride. The Dells’ Mt. Olympus is opening the Medusa Slidewheel — an 80-ft rotating water attraction — this Sat., May 28. (NBC15)

Closing

• Nau-Ti-Gal Waterfront Restaurant is closing after 40 years of service in the Madison community. The lakeside eatery’s sister restaurant Mariner’s Inn will remain open with plans to expand seating and live music. (Channel3000)

Edu

• Dane County schools will receive $1.5 million in funding for mental health + substance abuse resources. Districts will propose ways to use the grant with services going into effect in fall 2023. (Channel3000)

• Cheers to 20 years, Wisconsin Book Festival. To celebrate the milestone the festival will be featuring events with James Beard Award-winning chef Kwame Onwuachi and best-selling author James Patterson. 📚
• Friends of Madison Public Library is holding its Big Book Sale on Sat., June 4. All proceeds benefit Madison Public Libraries with paperback books for $1 + hardbound for $2.  

For Kids

• Boulders Gym’s summer camps are now open for kids ages 7-16. All levels of experience are welcome at the week-long camps that focus on climbing skills like knot tying and belaying. We’ve got more summer camp options for all types of interests.
